Abstract The status of the obscure Pagurus bouvieri (Faxon, 1895), a replacement name proposed for the preoccupied Eupagurus smithii A. Milne-Edwards and Bouvier, 1893, was evaluated. Based on types and numerous unreported museum materials, P. bouvieri is found to be synonymous with Pagurus politus (Smith, 1882) a commonly encountered but infrequently discussed northwestern Atlantic species. The taxonomy and geographic distribution of P. politus is updated with a complete synonymy, redescription, and illustrations. The taxonomy of the northeastern Pacific species Pagurus smithi (Benedict, 1892) is also updated, including a redescription with illustrations.

Abstract A new hermit crab of the genus Calcinus Dana, 1851 is described from a specimen collected at a depth of 100 m near Rapa Island, Austral Islands, French Polynesia. In a previous report, we had reported this specimen provisionally as Calcinus aff. sirius, pending availability of live color data for Calcinus sirius Morgan, 1991. Recently obtained color photographs of live C. sirius from the Solitary Islands, Eastern Australia, has shown that the specimen from Rapa Island is distinct from Morgan’s taxon and represents a new species which is fully illustrated and described herein as Calcinus shawi sp. nov. The morphology and coloration of this new species are compared with the closely allied C. sirius and Calcinus dapsiles Morgan, 1989.

Abstract After a study of the type specimens, as well as supplementary materials of the eastern Pacific hermit crab Pagurus gladius (Benedict, 1892), this taxon is transferred to the genus Spathapagurus Lemaitre and Felder, 2011, and a full redescription and illustrations are presented. Morphological similarities of Benedict’s taxon with three other eastern Pacific species (Pagurus albus (Benedict, 1892), Pagurus perlatus H. Milne Edwards, 1848, and Pagurus pseudoalbus Ayón-Parente and Wehrtmann, 2019) are summarized. While examining museum specimens during this study, one female specimen representing a new species of Pagurus Fabricius, 1775, was discovered. This new species, named Pagurus marysolae sp. nov., is fully described and illustrated, and is assigned to Group II (“exilis”) of Pagurus.

Un estudio de muestras de anfípodos gamarídeos obtenidas en zonas coralinas y estuarinas al sur de Cartagena, Colombia, reveló la existencia de siete especies desconocidas para la ciencia. Estas se describen en detalle bajo los siguientes nombres: Ampithoe hirsutimanus, Batea schotti, Caribboecetes justi, Cerapus thomasi, Lembos scolosternum, Nasageneia comisariensis, y Seba robusta.

A study of gammaridean amphipod samples obtained from coral reefs and estuarine environments south of Cartagena, Colombia, revealed the existence of seven undescribed species. These are described and illustrated in detail under the names: Ampithoe hirsutimanus, Batea schotti, Caribboecetes justi, Cerapus thomasi, Lembos scolosternum, Nasageneia comisariensis, and Seba robusta.

Como resultado de Investigaciones sobre la fauna de crustáceos de las costas del Caribe colombiano, numerosas muestras se obtuvieron en estaciones localizadas al sur de Cartagena, durante los meses de marzo y julio de 1991. El estudio cualitativo de estas muestras reveló la existencia de 43 especies de anfípodos, de las cuales 25 (58%) no habían sido registradas anteriormente de estas costas. Se presenta una lista sistemática de las especies, así como información sobre el tipo de substrato donde se encontraron. La mayoría se colectaron en habitats de praderas de fanerógamas marinas (Thalassia, Syringodium). Comparando con otras áreas del Caribe, y teniendo en cuenta la limitación casi exclusiva de los muestreos a estos habitats, el número de especies encontradas es alto.

During studies of the crustacean fauna from the Caribbean coast of Colombia, a number of samples were obtained in March and July of 1991 at various localities south of Cartagena. A qualitative study of the samples revealed the existence of 43 species of amphipods, 25 of which (58%) had not been previously reported for this coast. A systematic list is presented as well as a description of the substrate where the species were found. The majority were collected from seagrass-bed habitats. Considering that sampling was limited almost exclusively to these habitats, the number of species found is high when compared to other areas in the Caribbean.

La costa del Pacífico colombiano ha sido poco explorada, siendo su fauna una de las mas desconocidas del Pacífico tropical americano. Aunque el conocimiento de los decápodos de esta costa ha aumentado recientemente, la información sobre las especies se halla dispersa en numerosas fuentes. Un examen de estas fuentes reveló que en esta costa, incluyendo las Islas de Malpelo y Gorgona, se han registrado 378 especies pertenecientes a 50 familias, y repartidas asi: Dendrobranchiata, 18; Caridea, 79; Thalassinidea, 13; Palinura, 6; Anomura, 61; y Brachyura, 201. Veintisiete especies se conocen únicamente de la costa colombiana, de las cuales tres son endémicas en las Islas de Malpelo o Gorgona. Se presenta la lista de los decápodos conocidos de esta costa, con información sobre su distribución geográfica y batimétrica, referencias importantes, y sinónimos bajo los cuales han sido registrados para Colombia. Se hace un resumen histórico de las exploraciones en el Pacífico colombiano en referencia a los decápodos, y se incluye una discusión preliminar sobre las afinidades zoogeográficas de las especies marinas. Las afinidades son mayores con las regiones del Golfo de California y Baja California (51.8%), las Islas Galápagos (28.6%), el Indo-Pacífico (8.8%), y el Caribe-Atlántico (7.7%).

The Pacific coast of Colombia has been poorly explored, and its fauna is one of the least known in the tropical eastern Pacific. Although knowledge of the decapod fauna from this coast has recently increased, the information is scattered in numerous sources. A review of the literature showed that 378 decapods have been reported from this coast, including the islands of Gorgona and Malpelo. The numbers of species are distributed as follows: Dendrobranchiata, 18; Caridea,79; Thalassinidea, 13; Palinura, 6; Anomura, 61 ; and Brachyura, 201. Twenty-seven species are known exclusively from the Colombian coast, three of which are endemic to the islands of Malpelo or Gorgona. A list of nominal species is presented, including information on distribution, important references, and synonyms under which the taxa have been reported for this coast. A summary of the history of explorations of the Pacific coast of Colombia as it relates to decapods, is presented. Zoogeographie affinities are briefly discussed for the marine species based on published distributions. Affinities are greatest with the Gulf of California (51.8%), followed by the Galapagos (28.6%), the Indo-Pacific (8.8%), and the Caribbean- Atlantic (7.7%).
